Punk in DC-Area Parks

“Wanna see a show?” Mark Andersen asks interested punk audiences in a 1991 edition of Crack DC magazine. Then “do it yourself." But how would someone organize a show themselves? Andersen offered some advice. Apply for a permit with the National Park Service. This zine, designed to emulate the style of the do-it-yourself magazines that punks circulated during the 1980s and 1990s, tells the story of punk on federal land. It focuses on the possibilities public space affords civic expression and the extent to which institutions try to curtail it.
