Go-go According to Globe

This video situates go-go music within the spaces it has inhabited in Washington, DC’s Black community. Examining around 1,000 posters as geographic artifacts of the historical presentation of go-go music from the 1960s to the 90s, it demonstrates the shifting venues that incorporated go-go music, venues like the Safari Club and Mount Kilimanjaro that are no longer in operation. The video identifies alternative spaces where go-go music has continued to thrive, from the skating rink to the public school and recreational parks, as examples of communities resisting gentrification through collective music-making.
